Over the years, the deck surface of the right lane has severely deteriorated and has reached the end of its service life. This project will eliminate this safety risk and is in the best interest of drivers traveling across the bridge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How is the Project Affecting Travel?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MDTA is currently working on implementing steps to shorten the duration of the project and to improve traffic conditions for commuters, visitors, and locals. The goal is to have all lanes of the Bay Bridge open and running by Summer 2020. However, the right lane of the westbound span is currently closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which is causing significant traffic delays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, drivers should be aware that in the upcoming weeks, westbound <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">center lane closures<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will take place. You can expect these center lane closures to occur Monday through Friday, anytime between 10 AM and 2:45 AM (the exact schedule will depend on the weather, traffic volumes, and work progress).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of March 17, 2020, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">electronic tolling<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (cashless) only is effective. For the most up to date <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">traffic information<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> regarding the Bay Bridge update, call 1-877-BAYSPAN (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">229-7726).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Are the Best Times to Travel?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While MDTA is doing its best to adjust the construction schedule to avoid peak travel times, drivers should be sure to allow for extra travel time when crossing the Bay Bridge. Plan on leaving for your destination early, and if you can, stay later to avoid rush hour traffic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As more and more visitors are anticipated to travel to the Eastern Shore for Easter, spring break, and the warmer months, major weekend delays are expected. We suggest that you avoid crossing the bridge during these peak travel periods.
